Welcome to The Buzz
Hey, hi, hello! Whether you're here out of curiosity, a love for pollinators, or a shared passion for nature…or you happen to be my family or dear friends looking to support me (thanks by the way!), I'm so happy to welcome you to this little corner of the web—a place dedicated to bees, plants, and the harmony of our natural world.
My journey as a beekeeper began about eight years ago, alongside my mother, where we took our first classes and built our first hives together. Throughout the years we’ve learned so much about what it means to share space with the bees. You ever listen to the hum of bees on a warm summer afternoon? One of the best sounds you’ll ever hear.
What started as a shared project has blossomed into a profound love and respect for pollinators and the plants they sustain. To me, being a beekeeper isn't about ownership—it's about stewardship. It's about being a guardian for these extraordinary beings and supporting an environment where they thrive.
My upbringing, surrounded by generations of women who tended to their gardens with care, deeply shaped my perspective. I watched their hands nurture the earth, witnessed the joy they found in growing, and learned the quiet lessons of patience and reciprocity born from true relationship. I believe that we continue to learn throughout our lives, and every day it feels like I am learning something new if that’s a new gardening tip or some fascinating little tidbit about bees. Sometimes I think I could talk about them all day long—I’m guessing many people in my life are happy that I don’t!
Through it all though— the good, bad, sideways, what have you, one truth has stood out to me pretty plainly—we are nature. We cannot disconnect ourselves from it, nor should we ever try. When we approach our relationship with the natural world with reciprocity—giving as much as we take—we create a bond and a responsibility.
This site, The Backyard Bee, is born from that belief. Here, I hope to share insights, stories, and tips on beekeeping, gardening, and my life. It's a space for learning, for celebrating the tiny miracles of the natural world, and for cultivating community.
Thank you for being here, for whatever reason you are. Together, we can learn from the bees—these incredible teachers—and nurture the world they help create.
